ZEC’s Freon FR5 thermoplastic hoses are used in refrigeration systems, both in fixed systems and in the automotive industry 1. Intense research in innovative materials led to the development of a product able to substitute traditional copper hoses, offering the advantage of flexibility and ease of assembly, while ensuring excellent resistance and low permeability to refrigerant gases (including CO2).

Research in the field of plastics has produced a particular alloy consisting of polyamides (PA) and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE). This innovative material combines polyamide’s excellent mechanical and low gas permeability characteristics with the high flexibility of elastomers, without having to resort to plasticizing additives. Even if elastomeric polyamide has low density, it ensures an excellent barrier to refrigerant gases (R-22, R-134a, R-404a, R-407c, R-410a, R-507, R-600a, R-744, HFO-1234yf) and an excellent chemical resistance to lubricating oils typically mixed with the refrigerant (e.g.: PAG oils, mainly used in the automotive industry, or POE oils, widespread in fixed systems).
“F-Gas” Directives (2006/842/EC and 2006/40/EC) require the use of eco-friendly refrigerants (GWP < 150, Global Warming Potential). The carbon dioxide used as refrigerant (R-744) has a GWP of 1, is nonflammable, has low toxicity, is readily available and has a low cost. However, CO2 requires working pressures about 10 times higher than those of a conventional refrigerant gas. ZEC’s Freon FR5 thermoplastic hose (DN2, DN4 and DN6) have been developed to work also with CO2, ensuring a working pressure up to 120 bar, with a Safety ratio of 1:5.
The inner core of ZEC Freon FR5 hoses is made of elastomeric polyamide. The reinforcement braid in high tenacity polyester yarn (PET) and the micro perforated antiabrasion polyurethane covering (PU) give the hose high resistance both to pressure and surface abrasion, ensuring performance in conformity with the requirements of UNI EN 1736 Standard.
hoses of the FR5 series have been created for the through flow of R22, R134A, R404, R407, R410, R507 refrigerants and for hoses with * also CO², with relating POE lubricating oils.
